A Mind for Numbers
My Review
“A Mind for Numbers” by Barbara Oakley is helpful for not only math but also for the sciences, or any general study. It shows us how we learn, how our brain processes the things we learn, and about how we can effectively use this knowledge to improve productivity.
The author tells her story of how she hated math at a young age and was obsessed with language studies. However, she found that studying just the language studies limited her career choices and that learning math would open up many potential job options. Hence, she started her journey of a math in her 20s and found it fascinating after a while of learning.
Throughout the book, she gives lots of productivity/study tips to get more work done in less time, and to prolong the time things stay in our memory. Additionally, she interviews and tells the stories of many people linking the ideas she discusses to those people.
This book is a great read for improving productivity, concentration, as well as memory.
Buy the Book
As someone who wants to maximise productivity to free up time for things outside of school, I loved reading the book: following its advice, I found myself being, not just feeling, much more productive. You can buy “A Mind for Numbers” from Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
